Los Angeles, Feb 21 (NationPress) - Renowned actor Nicolas Cage is facing a lawsuit filed by his former partner Christina Fulton nearly a year after their adult son Weston allegedly assaulted her.
According to court documents, Fulton alleges that Cage disregarded their son Weston Coppola Cage's mental health issues and instead facilitated his problematic behavior prior to the incident, as reported by people.com.
On April 28, 2024, a verbal confrontation between Weston, aged 34, and Fulton, aged 57, escalated into a physical altercation. At that time, Fulton refuted claims of an argument, claiming that her son was undergoing a mental health crisis and that she was attempting to secure help for him.
Weston was arrested in July 2024 on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and was later released on bail. Post-arrest, Fulton stated she had been brutally assaulted and emphasized the necessity for Weston to receive urgent assistance.
Fulton’s lawsuit criticizes the 61-year-old star for not stepping in to help their son.
“Weston has a longstanding history of mental health issues and has previously committed violent acts,” the lawsuit claims, filed in the Superior Court of California in Los Angeles County.
“Nicolas has been aware of Weston's background but has failed to act to prevent further violence and harm,” as reported by people.com.
Fulton alleges that Cage has bailed Weston out multiple times, consumed alcohol with him despite knowing his history of substance abuse, and financed his condo in downtown Los Angeles, which is located near Cage's residence.
She also asserts that Cage neglected to ensure Weston received necessary psychiatric care, supported his reckless lifestyle, and failed to impose any rules to curb Weston's alleged behavior.
The lawsuit asserts, “Nicolas knew or should have known that Weston posed a serious and imminent threat to others, including the Plaintiff, given his documented history of violence, substance abuse, and mental instability.”
This lawsuit follows an incident nearly a year prior, wherein Weston allegedly attacked Fulton in the elevator, lobby, and parking area of his condo building, resulting in severe and life-threatening injuries, as claimed in the filing.
In response, Cage's attorney stated, “The claims made by Christina Fulton against Nicolas Cage are unfounded and ridiculous.”
“Weston Coppola is a 34-year-old adult. Mr. Cage does not control Weston's actions and is not liable for the alleged assault on his mother,” the lawyer further stated.
Fulton alleges her injuries included a brain concussion, numerous contusions, a disfiguring eye injury, dental trauma, PTSD, and psychological harm.
“These injuries have necessitated extensive medical treatment, surgical procedures, and ongoing care,” the lawsuit asserts.
The alleged assault has severely impacted Fulton's previously thriving modeling and acting career, with the filing indicating she was in the midst of filming a Netflix series when the incident disrupted her life.
She has been unable to film, attend promotional events, and her reputation has suffered as per her lawsuit. Fulton mentioned that her Cyclish brand and a multi-million-dollar opportunity were also at risk due to her living in fear, which hindered her ability to run her business effectively.
Fulton is pursuing claims against Cage for negligent supervision and undertaking, while also pursuing Weston for assault, battery, intentional emotional distress, and negligence.
