Mumbai, March 16 (NationPress) Pollywood actor-singer, Parmish Verma, has shared his insights on the topic of racism in his forthcoming series “Kanneda.”

In an exclusive conversation with IANS, the actor emphasized that racism is a profoundly sensitive matter, one that cannot be fully grasped without having lived through it.

Parmish remarked, “That’s a sensitive question. Racism is something that you cannot fully understand unless you’ve experienced it. The stories of those who have endured it are truly eye-opening. To portray the positive side of any story, sometimes you have to depict the darker side as well. We aimed to create a positive impact by showing what should not be done to immigrants—those who have left behind their families and homes in search of better opportunities.”

When asked about how he approached an emotionally taxing role in the film, the ‘Dil Diyan Gallan’ actor reflected, “Nimma’s character exhibits extreme behaviors that I doubt anyone has experienced directly. As an actor, it’s challenging because you don't always have real-life references. I endeavored to comprehend the pain and trauma that shaped Nimma’s anger and resentment. Our directors, writers, and even the Director of Photography provided immense support throughout the journey. The art teams did a remarkable job of making the set feel authentic, almost as if stepping onto a stage in a theater.”

Addressing concerns about potential backlash regarding the series, Parmish Verma acknowledged that any form of art is likely to provoke discussion. “That’s the nature of storytelling,” he stated. Parmish highlighted that the primary objective behind his projects, including “Kanneda,” is to create something that stimulates thought. However, he also mentioned that if audiences perceive it merely as entertainment, that’s perfectly acceptable as well.

“Any form of art can spark debate, and that’s the essence of storytelling. Our aim is to create something thought-provoking, and if people view it as entertainment, that’s fine too. We want viewers to recognize that stories often illuminate both positive and negative elements to provide a comprehensive perspective,” he elaborated.

The captivating drama delves into themes of identity, crime, power, and survival, featuring an exceptional cast that includes Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Ranvir Shorey, Arunoday Singh, Aadar Malik, and Jasmine Bajwa. ‘Kanneda’, produced by Jar Pictures, is directed by Chandan Arora and is set to premiere on March 21 on JioHotstar.
