The year 2025 will also mark three years since the notorious Oscar Slapgate incident, where Smith slapped comedian and actor Chris Rock during the 94th Academy Awards on March 27, 2022, after Rock made a joke regarding Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, and her alopecia condition.
In other news, last year it was reported that Smith and director Michael Bay, famous for their blockbuster hit ‘Bad Boys’, are looking to collaborate once again on a new project.
Bay is in discussions to direct the action movie ‘Fast and Loose’ for Netflix, with Smith set to star, as per reports from ‘Variety’.
‘Fast and Loose’ narrates the story of a man who wakes up in Tijuana with no memories. As he begins to reconstruct his past, he discovers he has been living dual lives: one as a crime lord and the other as an undercover CIA agent.
According to ‘Variety’, the script has been written by Jon Hoeber, Erich Hoeber, Chris Bremner, and Eric Pearson. The producers include Smith, Kelly McCormick, and David Leitch for 87North. Negotiations are underway for Jon Mone and Ryan Shimazaki to produce for Westbrook Studios along with James Lassiter.
Executive producers are Robert Simonds and Noah Fogelson for STXfilms, along with Barry Waldman.
Bay and Smith first collaborated on the 1995 hit ‘Bad Boys’, marking Bay’s directorial debut. The film was a box office hit, leading to three sequels: ‘Bad Boys II’, ‘Bad Boys for Life’, and ‘Bad Boys: Ride or Die’.
Smith won an Oscar in 2021 for his portrayal of Richard Williams in ‘King Richard’. In 2022, he starred in Apple’s ‘Emancipation’ and is set to appear next in Sony Pictures’ sci-fi thriller ‘Resistor’, based on Daniel Suarez’s 2014 novel ‘Influx’.
Michael Bay, known for the ‘Transformers’ series and ‘Pearl Harbor’, is currently in discussions to adapt the animated internet meme ‘Skibidi Toilet’ for television and film with former Paramount Pictures president Adam Goodman. Additionally, he is working on his first docuseries titled ‘Born Evil: The Serial Killer and the Savior’.
