Afghanistan Sees 200 New AIDS Cases in 2024
Kabul, Dec 4 (NationPress) Afghanistan's Ministry of Public Health has documented 200 new cases of Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS)/HIV among citizens in 2024.

Kabul, Dec 4 (NationPress) The Ministry of Public Health in Afghanistan has reported an alarming rise with 200 new cases of Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS)/HIV recorded among its citizens in 2024.

Currently, there are eight treatment facilities and 61 diagnostic centers dedicated to HIV/AIDS across Afghanistan, ensuring that health services for individuals affected by this virus are accessible nationwide, as stated by the ministry, according to reports from Xinhua news agency and the state-run Bakhtar news agency.

According to Sharafat Zaman Amarkhail, the ministry's spokesperson, since 1989, a cumulative total of 3,700 HIV cases have been identified in Afghanistan.

At this moment, there are 1,400 individuals living with the virus who are receiving medical assistance throughout the country.

The global perspective is concerning, with approximately 39.9 million people infected with HIV as of 2023, and a staggering 630,000 fatalities attributed to AIDS-related illnesses during the same year, according to data released by the Joint United Nations Programs on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS).
