United Nations, Feb 6 (NationPress) In light of US President Donald Trump's warning regarding Gaza, UN humanitarian officials have stated that they and their affiliates are actively evaluating needs and intensifying aid efforts throughout the area.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) expressed its primary concern for the most at-risk individuals in Gaza, particularly the 90 percent of the 2.1 million population who have already been displaced from their residences.

According to OCHA, the global organization and its partners estimate that over 500,000 displaced Palestinians have returned to North Gaza, where there is a pressing requirement for tents and shelter materials, as reported by Xinhua.

To mitigate these shortages and address the effects of rain on families living in improvised conditions, the Palestine Red Crescent Society transported 22 trucks of tents from southern to northern Gaza on Tuesday.

UN partners distributed 1,000 kits designed to seal off makeshift shelters to displaced family sites in Deir al Balah, located in central Gaza.

“Throughout Gaza, 22 bakeries supported by the World Food Programme (WFP) are now operational,” stated OCHA.

“Health partners continue to provide both primary and secondary health services across the Strip. Yesterday (Tuesday), five ambulances entered Gaza to bolster emergency response capabilities.”

The office noted that since the ceasefire commenced on January 19, its partners have conducted swift assessments at over 100 non-functional health service points to determine rehabilitation needs.

The UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) revealed that it has been distributing nutritional support for infants.

Across Gaza, WFP has supplied lipid-based nutrient supplements to over 80,000 children, pregnant, or breastfeeding women since the ceasefire.

The office reported that humanitarian partners have screened over 30,000 children under 5 for malnutrition since January 19. Among those screened, 1,150 cases of acute malnutrition were identified, including 230 instances of severe acute malnutrition.

The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) distributed nearly 100 metric tons of animal feed to assist herders in Deir al Balah and Khan Younis, benefiting hundreds in the agricultural sector.

“To maintain educational activities throughout the Strip, education partners established three new temporary learning environments yesterday (Tuesday) in Gaza, Rafah, and Khan Younis governorates, assisting 200 school-aged children,” noted OCHA.
