New Delhi, Dec 15 (NationPress) India has dispatched approximately 60 tonnes of emergency medical supplies, generators, and additional utilities to Jamaica to bolster the nation's healthcare services and improve its disaster response capabilities.

New Delhi, Dec 15 (NationPress) A new shipment of roughly 60 tonnes of essential medical supplies, generators, and other critical items has been dispatched by India to Jamaica to aid in the nation's healthcare requirements and strengthen their disaster preparedness.

The spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Randhir Jaiswal, provided details about this humanitarian effort on Saturday.

"India sends Humanitarian Assistance to Jamaica. A shipment of approximately 60 tonnes of emergency medical supplies, Gensets, and other utilities has been sent to Jamaica. This aid will support healthcare needs and the rehabilitation of medical infrastructure, as well as enhance disaster readiness against hurricanes," Jaiswal stated in a post on X.

India and Jamaica maintain strong historical and cultural connections, evident in their shared colonial history, democratic values, and mutual love for cricket.

Recently, at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness made his inaugural visit to India from September 30 to October 3.

The two leaders convened for a bilateral discussion in New Delhi.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness articulated his nation's intent to deepen collaboration with India across various sectors, including science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM), education, digitalisation, security, and energy.

PM Modi praised the India-Jamaica relationship, stating that it is grounded in a "shared history," adding that PM Holness is a "longstanding friend of India".

The Prime Minister expressed optimism about Holness' visit to India, emphasizing that it would infuse new energy into bilateral relations.

Jamaican PM Andrew Holness deemed his official trip to India a success, commending New Delhi for being a strong advocate for the Global South while offering a development pathway for nations like Jamaica.

PM Holness also recognized India's cricketing excellence alongside Jamaica's supremacy in track and field, highlighting the significant opportunities for mutual exchange and cooperation.

India and Jamaica collaborate within multilateral platforms, sharing common perspectives on issues such as promoting South-South Cooperation and addressing the developmental needs of the Global South. They share interests in shaping the emerging framework of various multilateral institutions, particularly on critical issues like energy and food security, climate change, and international terrorism.
