Kabul, Jan 29 (NationPress) The Afghan counter-narcotics police have uncovered approximately 19 kg of illegal substances, which includes 13 kg of Ice (methamphetamine), leading to the apprehension of 12 alleged drug smugglers across five provinces in Afghanistan, according to an official statement released on Wednesday.
The drugs were confiscated during a series of routine operations executed by law enforcement on the outskirts of the provinces of Herat, Laghman, Panjshir, Faryab, and the national capital Kabul, as noted by the Ministry of Interior.
In a separate announcement, the ministry reported that Afghan authorities have incinerated over 16 tonnes of narcotic substances and acids in the western province of Nimroz.
The counter-narcotics department also burned 10.5 tonnes of illegal drugs in central Afghanistan's Bamiyan province, as stated by the provincial police office on Wednesday.
The confiscated materials included opium poppy, hashish, and other items used in the production of heroin and other harmful substances, which were publicly incinerated on Tuesday, according to the report.
Bamiyan police have prohibited the cultivation of poppy, along with drug processing and trafficking within the province, the statement further added.
The Afghan interim government has intensified its efforts against illicit drugs and those engaged in this trade, pledging to eradicate the issue until the nation is devoid of poppy cultivation.
Additionally, Afghan police announced on Wednesday the detention of 23 individuals accused of engaging in criminal activities, including murder and theft, over the last 24 hours across the country.
The suspects were apprehended during operations carried out by counter-narcotics police in the provinces of Nimroz, Parwan, Balkh, Helmand, Laghman, and Badghis, according to the Interior Ministry.
Most of the detainees were implicated in murder and theft cases, a source revealed, adding that the suspects were transferred to the appropriate departments for investigation and potential legal proceedings.
