Sydney, Feb 6 (NationPress) Authorities have initiated an inquiry into the demise of a man in a suspicious house fire in Melbourne's inner southeast on Wednesday.

In a statement released on Thursday, law enforcement in Victoria, Australia, indicated that emergency services responded to reports of a house blaze in the coastal suburb of St Kilda, located six kilometers southeast of central Melbourne, around 8:40 p.m. local time on Wednesday.

Firefighters arrived at the scene and discovered the ground level of the property engulfed in flames. An unnamed man was located inside with severe injuries. He received treatment but unfortunately succumbed at the scene, as reported by Xinhua news agency, referencing the statement.

Fire crews classified the fire as suspicious and transferred the case to the police.

"The precise circumstances surrounding the man's death, along with the fire at the residence, remain undetermined, and the incident is being treated as suspicious," the police announcement stated.

A crime scene has been established, and detectives from the homicide division have begun their investigation.

Authorities indicated that an arson chemist would evaluate the scene.

House fires have increasingly become a prevalent cause of fatalities in Melbourne.

In a recent incident last month, a man lost his life, and another sustained injuries in a house fire in the western suburbs of Melbourne.

Emergency responders were summoned to a home in Deer Park, approximately 16 kilometers west of central Melbourne, after a fire ignited in a bedroom.

Officials reported that two individuals were present in the residence during the event. One man died at the location, while another man in his 30s was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Fire and rescue officials stated that the fire was restricted to a single bedroom and was controlled within 15 minutes.
