The horrific assault, which claimed the lives of over a dozen tourists and left many more severely injured, took place on Tuesday in the Baisaran Valley near Pahalgam. Heavily armed terrorists emerged from the dense surrounding forests and opened fire indiscriminately on tourists. This attack has been labeled one of the most dreadful incidents in the region in recent times.
Initial intelligence reports indicate that the Pakistan-based terrorist group, The Resistance Front (TRF), an offshoot of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba, has claimed responsibility for the attack, although official confirmation is still pending.
In the wake of Tuesday's grim incident, security forces in Jammu and Kashmir are on heightened alert. Security measures have been intensified at all vulnerable locations, with additional forces deployed throughout the Valley.
