Gandhinagar, April 23 (NationPress) In the wake of the devastating terrorist incident in Kashmir’s Pahalgam, authorities have placed Gujarat on high alert, as stated by an official.
The official noted that, in light of the increased threat level, security forces have implemented extensive protective measures at significant religious sites, transportation hubs, and border regions.
“Local police and intelligence agencies in Gujarat have intensified their vigilance, launching a series of proactive steps to secure sensitive areas,” he mentioned.
He further pointed out that major pilgrimage sites including Ambaji, Dwarka, Somnath, and Pavagadh are now under stringent security protocols, with special forces deployed and patrols heightened.
“We are on high alert and collaborating with central agencies to guarantee the safety of our residents,” the official stated.
Due to the coastal significance of Somnath and Dwarka, these temples have been placed under maximum security.
“Security personnel are actively overseeing these regions to avert any potential threats. Security measures have been escalated at all major airports, railway stations, and bus terminals throughout Gujarat,” he added.
The official mentioned that teams have been directed to perform comprehensive inspections, with CCTV surveillance being closely monitored to track movements and identify suspicious activities.
“A statewide crackdown is in effect with checking operations across highways, urban areas, and rural regions. Additional police units have been stationed in border districts, particularly Banaskantha, which shares a border with Pakistan,” he explained.
He added that vehicles are being inspected, and individuals exhibiting suspicious behavior are under surveillance.
Banaskantha SP Aksharaj Makwana emphasized the strategic significance of the area, citing enhanced security at Ambaji Temple, which attracts thousands of visitors each day.
“At Ambaji Temple, the Special Operations Group (SOG) and trained snipers are on high alert,” he stated.
He continued that all visitors are now required to undergo increased security screenings prior to entering the temple complex.
“Multiple checkpoints and round-the-clock surveillance have been established to ensure safety,” he said.
He also noted that Gujarat’s three armed security divisions have been ordered to remain at the ready, with boosted deployment along the state’s international border to prevent any cross-border infiltration or incidents.
