Riyadh, Feb 3 (NationPress) The Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud met with Syria's interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa to discuss the state of bilateral relations and the most recent updates regarding Syria.
On Sunday, they deliberated on enhancing Syria's security and stability, exploring collaborative opportunities in various sectors, and sharing insights on regional matters and efforts to tackle them, as reported by Xinhua news agency citing the Saudi Press Agency.
The Crown Prince congratulated al-Sharaa on his new role as President of Syria and expressed his hopes for his success in meeting the aspirations of the Syrian populace.
In return, al-Sharaa conveyed his appreciation for the Crown Prince’s well-wishes and for the Kingdom's supportive position towards Syria and its people.
Al-Sharaa made his first official visit abroad to the Saudi capital on Sunday.
Upon arrival, he was greeted at the airport by Prince Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Abdulaziz, the Deputy Governor of the Riyadh Region, along with several other officials.
Since 2017, he has led the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham group and played a significant part in the operation that resulted in the removal of former President Bashar al-Assad in December 2024 and the formation of the Syrian transitional government. Following Assad's removal, he has been the de facto leader of the country.
On January 29, Syria's Military Operations Administration declared al-Sharaa's appointment as president during the transitional phase, empowering him to create an interim legislative council until a permanent constitution is approved.
