Khartoum, Feb 21 (NationPress) The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) declared that its troops have achieved significant military progress across multiple battlefronts against the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
According to a brief statement on its Facebook page, units from the army's armored corps have made headway in the Al-Sajana region, located southwest of Khartoum.
The Al-Hurriya Bridge has been secured following the defeat and expulsion of the militia from civilian zones, along with the neutralization of numerous RSF members. The statement added that army units are advancing towards central Khartoum, a critical region where the RSF maintains a stronghold.
On the western front, the SAF reported that its warplanes executed a series of airstrikes on RSF positions around El-Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State, as confirmed by the Xinhua news agency.
These airstrikes inflicted both human and material losses on the RSF, causing many of their fighters to flee due to ongoing aerial bombardments, as stated by the SAF's 6th Infantry Division.
The SAF has been engaged in fierce confrontations in western, central, and southern Khartoum, with the objective of dismantling RSF control over vital areas within the capital.
On January 25, the SAF declared the completion of the first phase of its military campaign in Khartoum, successfully linking forces from Omdurman and Khartoum North with units stationed near the Signal Corps, located south of Bahri city, north of Khartoum.
The army also succeeded in lifting the RSF siege on its main headquarters, which had persisted for nearly 21 months.
Moreover, the SAF is currently engaged in combat in the East Nile area, located east of Khartoum, where it recently declared the end of a siege on a significant camp in the Al-Aylafun region.
Additionally, the army has gained control over areas such as Um Dawanban and Alosaylat in the East Nile neighborhood.
On February 17, the army reported that it had fully secured the Kafouri area in Bahri city, the last bastion of the RSF in that region.
Since mid-April 2023, Sudan has been engulfed in a devastating conflict between the SAF and the RSF, resulting in a tragic toll of at least 29,683 lives, according to the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data, a crisis monitoring group referenced by the United Nations.
Moreover, the conflict has displaced over 15 million individuals, both internally and externally, as estimated by the International Organisation for Migration.
