New York, Feb 11 (NationPress) In an effort to resolve some of the politically contentious prosecutions, US President Donald Trump has initiated the process to dismiss a case against New York’s mayor, Eric Adams.

On Monday, Acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove instructed federal prosecutors in the city to drop the alleged corruption case against Adams, emphasizing that the charges emerged after Adams publicly criticized President Joe Biden’s immigration policies.

Bove referenced Trump’s directive titled “Ending the Weaponisation of the Federal Government” as a significant reason for his guidance to the prosecutor.

Damian Williams, the federal prosecutor appointed by Biden who initiated the charges against the mayor, has stepped down following the change in administration, leaving an acting prosecutor to oversee the office.

Williams was also responsible for prosecuting former Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) officer Vikas Yadav and another individual, Nikhil Gupta, for allegedly conspiring to kill Khalistani leader Gurpatwant Pannun.

Although Adams is a Democrat like Biden, he has faced backlash from the administration due to his criticisms.

Despite not changing his party affiliation, Adams has not publicly criticized Trump and even met with him, receiving an invitation to his inauguration.

The primary charge against Adams involved allegations that he coerced the fire department to certify a building for the Turkish Consulate in exchange for benefits.

At the time of the alleged incident, Adams had not yet assumed the mayoral role and was serving as an official in a different borough from the building's location.

The prosecutors contended that one of the favors included an upgrade on a Turkish Airlines flight.

During his campaign, Trump claimed that the Biden administration and Democratic prosecutors were misusing the legal system against him and others.

He expressed solidarity with Adams, viewing him as another victim.

After the Biden administration relaxed border security measures, millions of undocumented migrants entered the US, with over 210,000 arriving in New York, putting a strain on the city’s resources.

Local law mandates that the city government provide accommodations for these migrants, leading to the appropriation of hotels to house them; Adams predicted that this would cost the city up to $6 billion.

As Adams was on his way to Washington to lead a delegation of mayors addressing the migrant situation, federal officials conducted a raid on his aide’s residence, forcing him to return home.

This incident preceded the prosecution of Adams himself.
