Abu Dhabi, Dec 22 (NationPress) The United Arab Emirates (UAE), Iraq, and Egypt have issued strong denunciations regarding the car-ramming incident at a Christmas market in the central German city of Magdeburg, which led to a significant number of casualties.
In a statement from its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the UAE stated it "expresses its strong condemnation of these criminal acts and its permanent rejection of all forms of violence against innocent people and aimed at undermining security and stability."
The ministry also conveyed its condolences and sympathies to the government and citizens of Germany, as well as the families affected by this tragedy, expressing hopes for a swift recovery for those injured in the incident, according to Xinhua news agency.
The Iraqi Foreign Ministry also released a statement expressing its "full solidarity with the friendly government and people of Germany in the face of this tragic incident," emphasizing "Iraq's firm rejection of violence and extremism in all forms."
They extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and wished for a quick recovery for those injured.
Meanwhile, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry declared in a statement that "Egypt confirms solidarity with Germany and its condemnation of all forms of violence and terrorism."
They expressed their deepest condolences to the government and people of Germany and wished for a swift recovery for the wounded.
In a separate declaration, Egypt's Al-Azhar, the leading Islamic institution, condemned the incident as "a heinous crime and a deviation from all religious teachings and human and moral values," urging for collaborative international efforts to combat extremism.
A vehicle crashed into a Christmas market in Magdeburg, the capital of the German state of Saxony-Anhalt, on Friday evening, resulting in at least five fatalities and over 200 injuries, many of which were reported as "serious and severe," as per reports from the German news agency dpa.
Authorities in Germany have identified a possible suspect as a 50-year-old physician from Saudi Arabia, who has been residing in Germany since 2006 and has worked in a nearby town. Police conducted a search of his residence overnight.
