Seoul, Jan 31 (NationPress) South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol convened with his senior aides at the Seoul Detention Centre on Friday, encouraging them to persist in their duties without losing motivation, according to a high-ranking presidential official.

During this meeting, Yoon interacted with Chung Jin-suk, his Chief of Staff, National Security Adviser Shin Won-sik, and three other senior aides at the facility located in Uiwang, south of Seoul.

This gathering was the first for Yoon's aides since the impeachment of the President, who was officially detained on January 19 over accusations of insurrection and abuse of power linked to his brief enforcement of martial law last month.

"The presidential office is at the core of state matters, so do not lose heart and perform your duties to the best of your abilities," Yoon reportedly stated. "This is also a locale where individuals reside. I am managing well."

Yoon inquired whether the medical system operated smoothly during the Lunar New Year celebrations, ensuring that there was no disruption for the elderly, as noted by the official.

The Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials lifted the limitations on Yoon's visitor meetings last Friday; however, general visits were restricted during the Lunar New Year holiday, which concluded on Thursday, as reported by Yonhap news agency.

On January 28, Yoon defended his choice to declare martial law during a session with his legal team.

Yoon faces allegations of collaborating with former Defence Minister Kim Yong-hyun and others to provoke an insurrection on December 3 by declaring an unconstitutional and unlawful state of emergency, despite a lack of any indicators of war, armed conflict, or a similar national crisis.

Additionally, Yoon is accused of deploying military forces to the National Assembly to prevent lawmakers from rejecting the martial law declaration and planning to detain prominent political figures.
