New Delhi, Feb 8 (NationPress) The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Atishi, who was the outgoing Chief Minister of Delhi, has emerged victorious in the Kalkaji Assembly constituency, defeating the BJP's Ramesh Bidhuri by more than 3,000 votes.
In expressing her gratitude to the residents of her constituency, Atishi stated, "I am deeply thankful to the people of Kalkaji Assembly for their trust in me."
"I also wish to acknowledge my entire team, who worked diligently at the grassroots level, facing challenges such as muscle power, hooliganism, and violence to connect with the electorate. The people's mandate in Delhi is unmistakable, and we accept it. This moment is not for celebration; it is a time for struggle, and our fight against the BJP will persist," she added.
Despite her individual win, AAP is currently lagging in the overall election results.
According to the latest trends, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading in 47 out of 70 seats, putting itself in a position to gain a majority, while AAP is trailing with 23 seats. These results indicate a significant political shift in Delhi, with the BJP making considerable inroads into AAP's traditional stronghold.
Earlier in the day, AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal conceded defeat as the election results revealed that the BJP had secured a clear majority in the Delhi Assembly elections.
Kejriwal, who lost his seat in the New Delhi constituency to BJP’s Parvesh Verma, accepted the results with grace and congratulated the winning party, the BJP.
"The election results for Delhi are out, and we humbly accept the people's decision. The voice of the public is paramount, and we wholeheartedly respect it," Kejriwal conveyed in a video message.
He congratulated the BJP for its success and expressed hope that the party would live up to the expectations of the people.
