New Delhi, Feb 4 (NationPress) The distinguished trip of Bhutan King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck to India for the Maha Kumbh Mela aligns with the custom of consistent high-level interactions between the two neighboring nations—an essential hallmark of their special partnership, stated the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Tuesday.

The Bhutanese monarch, arriving in Lucknow on Monday at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, took a sacred dip at the Triveni Sangam on Tuesday, accompanied by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who also joined him in Prayagraj.

Additionally, UP Governor Anandiben Patel hosted a dinner honoring the visiting royal.

"India and Bhutan share unique ties of friendship and collaboration, marked by mutual trust and understanding. His Majesty's visit reinforces the tradition of regular high-level exchanges between the two nations, a significant feature of their special partnership," read the statement from the MEA.

On social media platform X, CM Yogi expressed his warm welcome, stating, "A hearty welcome to His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck of Bhutan in Uttar Pradesh, the sacred land of valor, culture, and harmony!"

After his holy dip at the revered Triveni Sangam, the Bhutan King visited the Akshayavat, offered prayers at the Bade Hanuman Temple, and toured the Digital Mahakumbh Experience Centre.

On Monday, Bhutan's Ambassador to India Vetsop Namgyel was part of the 110-member delegation of Heads of Mission (HoM), diplomats, and their spouses from 71 countries present at the Maha Kumbh Mela.

The Maha Kumbh 2025, which commenced on January 13, will run until February 26. The event has already attracted millions of devotees from India and abroad, with expectations to break previous attendance records.

To date, over 35 crore devotees have taken a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam. On Basant Panchami, a vast crowd gathered for the Amrit Snan, as hundreds of thousands traveled from across the nation.
