Hyderabad, March 14 (NationPress) The tragic demise of a man while in police custody has ignited unrest in Nizamabad, Telangana, as the deceased's family claims he fell victim to police torture.
Sampath Kumar passed away while under the supervision of the Cybercrime police on Thursday night. As news of his death circulated, relatives and friends gathered near the government hospital, staging a protest by sitting on the road, demanding justice.
To maintain order, police heightened security measures. Sampath Kumar's family alleged that he suffered torture at the hands of law enforcement, which they believe led to his untimely death. They are calling for a comprehensive investigation into the matter.
Employed at Srirama International Manpower, Sampath was arrested alongside another individual after complaints of fraud were filed by two persons who had traveled to Gulf countries.
The suspects were placed in judicial custody. The Cybercrime police took Sampath into their custody for questioning on Thursday, following a court order.
Sampath was transported to Jagitial town to recover funds related to the case and returned to the Cybercrime police station that same night. He reportedly expressed discomfort in his left arm, prompting immediate medical attention at the government hospital, where he ultimately passed away.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Raja Venkat Reddy stated to the media that Sampath was in stable condition upon arrival at the hospital. "He collapsed and died in the hospital in the presence of doctors," he remarked.
The police notified Sampath’s family about his death, and the body was subsequently transferred for an autopsy. The police official mentioned that a team of three doctors would carry out the autopsy.
