New Delhi, Feb 11 (NationPress) The situation worsens for Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Okhla, Amanatullah Khan, as a combined team from the Delhi Police and the Crime Branch is executing raids aimed at his capture.
According to police sources, Khan's arrest is on the horizon, due to accusations of obstructing law enforcement activities.
The Delhi Police have filed an FIR against the legislator, alleging that he interfered with a Crime Branch operation in Jamia Nagar.
The FIR references several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 221, 132, and 121(1), which relate to harboring offenders, obstructing public servants, and conspiracy against the state.
On Monday, the Crime Branch initiated a raid in Jamia Nagar to apprehend Shahbaz Khan, a criminal sought for attempted murder and a declared Proclaimed Offender. However, during the operation, Amanatullah Khan reportedly intervened, allowing Shahbaz Khan to escape.
As per police officials, Khan and his associates intentionally obstructed the police operation, resulting in chaos.
Law enforcement sources indicate that when officers attempted to detain the AAP leader for hindering their work, a heated exchange ensued between him and the police team. Amid the uproar, Shahbaz Khan managed to evade police custody.
Authorities also assert that Khan and his supporters assaulted police personnel during the altercation.
“Following the confrontation, two officers were sent for a medical examination; however, no severe injuries were reported,” stated a Crime Branch officer.
Subsequent to the clash, the police lodged a complaint against Amanatullah Khan, and legal actions are currently underway. The police have intensified efforts to find and arrest him, conducting raids at numerous locations.
Amanatullah Khan is a notable AAP figure, having represented the Okhla constituency since 2015. In the recent Delhi Assembly elections, he achieved a third consecutive victory, defeating BJP candidate Manish Chaudhary by a significant margin of 23,639 votes. Khan received a total of 88,392 votes, while Chaudhary garnered 65,304 votes.
Khan is also among the Delhi MLAs facing a high number of criminal cases.
