Imphal, Feb 5 (NationPress) In a series of effective joint operations, Assam Rifles, in collaboration with Manipur Police, successfully captured eight notorious militants across various locations in three districts of the troubled state, as reported by officials on Wednesday.
Defence Spokesman Lt Col Amit Shukla indicated that the para-military forces along with the Manipur Police initiated these joint operations based on specific intelligence regarding the presence of militants involved in extortion and other illegal activities.
During the first operation, the forces detained an active KYKL (Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup) member in Wabagai Lamkhai, Kakching District.
This KYKL member was reportedly engaged in extortion activities and was apprehended while driving a Maruti car. A detailed search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of two mobile devices, and the vehicle was also seized.
“Interrogating the individual on-site revealed his involvement in extortion,” the spokesman stated.
In a subsequent joint operation, Assam Rifles and Manipur Police captured a member of the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) Progressive at Yaripok in Thoubal district.
The PREPAK member was also accused of extortion and intimidation in Thoubal town.
In another significant success, the security forces apprehended five members of the Kangleipak Communist Party (City Meitei) at Sangakpham in Imphal East district. Intelligence reports from Assam Rifles indicated the presence of active KCP (City Meitei) members associated with extortion and intimidation in the Sangakpham area.
The search operation led to the recovery of a 9 mm pistol with a magazine, two 36-hand grenades, additional ammunition, three mobile phones, and cash.
Moreover, the security forces also detained a member of the Kangleipak Communist Party (Military Council) at Singjamei in Imphal East district.
This operation, based on precise intelligence about a KCP(MC) member involved in extortion and intimidation, resulted in the recovery of a grey Jupiter scooter, a mobile device, and a Mahindra pickup jeep.
The seized items, vehicles, and apprehended individuals from all operations have been transferred to Manipur Police for further legal proceedings.
