Mandya (Karnataka), March 14 (NationPress) The Karnataka Police have filed an FIR against 19 individuals in relation to the tragic suicide case involving a mother and her daughter in Mandya district.
On Thursday, 50-year-old Laxmi took her own life by hanging herself in her home, citing police negligence in addressing her daughter's suicide case.
Her daughter, 21-year-old Vijayalaxmi, tragically ended her life on February 21 by stepping in front of a train in Mandya. The family had approached the Mandya Rural police station, claiming that their daughter’s drastic action was triggered by one Harikrishna, who had taken advantage of her under the guise of love and ultimately betrayed her.
Despite their complaints, the police allegedly failed to take appropriate action and seemed to protect the accused. Overwhelmed by grief from losing her only child and enduring humiliation, Laxmi penned a death note before taking her life. In her note, she expressed that over 20 days had passed since her daughter's death without any action taken against those responsible.
She further claimed that Harikrishna’s family leveraged their influence to evade justice and manipulate the legal system. When locals raised concerns, the police instead filed an FIR against them, as mentioned in her note. She listed the accused and urgently requested justice for her daughter.
In the wake of Laxmi’s death, the community displayed their anger towards the police's inaction, even blocking the authorities from removing Laxmi’s body at one point.
In light of these events, the police department has subsequently filed an FIR against Harikrishna, a resident of Marasingahalli, along with his family and others implicated. The FIR encompasses various sections, including Section 189 (threatening a public servant), Section 191 (providing false evidence), Section 64 (punishment for rape), Section 108 (abetment to suicide), Section 54 (abetment when the abettor is present), and Section 118 (causing harm with dangerous weapons).
