New Delhi, Feb 8 (NationPress) Renowned social activist Anna Hazare stated on Saturday that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has fell behind in the Delhi Assembly elections due to their malicious intentions and errors. He emphasized that the controversy surrounding the liquor policy played a significant role, leading to Arvind Kejriwal gaining a negative reputation due to his avarice for money.

As counting commenced, initial trends suggested that the BJP is on track for a remarkable resurgence, edging ahead of the AAP, which had previously diminished the BJP to single-digit scores in the last election but is now facing a significant setback.

The ongoing term of the AAP was marred by substantial outrage over corruption allegations linked to the now-repealed liquor policy. The BJP accused the Kejriwal administration of transforming Delhi into a city of alcoholics following the introduction of 'Buy 1 Get 1 free' promotions on liquor.

Commenting on the early election results, Hazare remarked, "Due to the liquor policy and their greed for wealth, Kejriwal has become notorious."

"People have come to recognize that while he speaks of integrity, he simultaneously promotes alcohol. This contradiction is likely why he received fewer votes," he added.

Addressing the accusations against Kejriwal and other senior AAP officials, Hazare stated, "In politics, allegations are common. However, when confronted with claims, it is crucial to prove their falsehood to the public. The truth stands firm, while falsehoods do not. Thus, pursuing the path of truth is vital in such situations."

"Kejriwal has become self-centered and failed to realize it. He has taken a misguided path and is now headed for a downfall," he remarked.

Meanwhile, the BJP is currently leading with 46 seats, while the AAP is projected to hold 24 seats, as per the initial trends from the Election Commission of India (ECI). In the New Delhi Assembly constituency, where AAP national convener and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, BJP's Parvesh Verma, and Congress candidate Sandeep Dikshit are contending, Kejriwal is reported to be trailing while Verma is ahead in a highly competitive race.

Notable AAP candidates, such as Atishi from Kalkaji and Saurabh Bhardwaj from Greater Kailash, are also trailing behind BJP's Ramesh Bidhuri and Sikha Rai, respectively.

As the counting proceeds, the final results of the Delhi Assembly elections are keenly anticipated, with far-reaching implications for the future political landscape of the national capital.
