India to Organize the 28th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference in 2026: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla
New Delhi, Jan 11 (NationPress) India will organize the 28th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of Parliaments of Commonwealth Countries (CSPOC) in 2026, as announced by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla at the CSPOC Standing Committee Meeting in Guernsey, which will center on the application of artificial intelligence and social media in parliamentary operations.

New Delhi, Jan 11 (NationPress) India will be the host for the 28th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of Parliaments of Commonwealth Countries (CSPOC) in 2026, as stated by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla during the CSPOC Standing Committee Meeting held in Guernsey. This upcoming conference will emphasize the role of artificial intelligence and social media in enhancing parliamentary processes.

On Friday, Birla seizing the moment, showcased India's advancements across various domains, including agriculture, fintech, and infrastructure, all under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In a post on the social media platform X, the Lok Sabha Speaker remarked: "I chaired the meeting of the Standing Committee of the Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth (CSPOC) in Guernsey today. I had the opportunity to illustrate how India has evolved across sectors—from agriculture to fintech and infrastructure—under the visionary guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi."

He also mentioned: "It was decided in the meeting that the focus of the 28th CSPOC to be hosted in India next year would be the implementation of AI and social media in parliamentary functions."

During his address, Birla underscored India's economic growth and technological progress, which includes its expanding influence in sectors such as agriculture, fintech, artificial intelligence, and research.

He invited participants to witness the fusion of India's rich cultural heritage with contemporary advancements during the forthcoming conference.

Birla elaborated on the significance of parliaments in addressing worldwide issues like climate change, terrorism, and cybercrime.

He highlighted the necessity for inclusive and transparent parliamentary practices and emphasized the importance of dialogue among parliamentary leaders to tackle common challenges.

Additionally, he stressed the need for parliamentary institutions to be more effective, inclusive, and transparent to promote good governance and sustainable development.

Birla remarked that the CSPOC platform serves as a crucial opportunity for member nations to share best practices, enhance parliamentary collaboration, and collectively strive towards a fair and equitable future.

The CSPOC platform was characterized as a venue for improving cooperation and sharing parliamentary experiences among member nations.

Birla noted that India's role as the host is a chance to reflect the nation's traditions and commitment to inclusivity.

Quoting the principle of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, which translates to "the whole world is one family," Birla urged for collaboration among nations to tackle issues such as poverty, inequality, and malnutrition.

He also addressed the role of parliaments in formulating policies and allocating resources for sustainable development and effective governance.

Last year, the Lok Sabha incorporated artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) technologies to improve the accessibility of parliamentary proceedings for lawmakers.

These advanced technologies are being utilized to provide translations in regional languages for Members of Parliament and to make parliamentary documents available in various languages.

The Standing Committee outlined the agenda for the 2026 CSPOC and deliberated on global challenges facing parliaments.

Birla reminded attendees of India's previous hosting of the conference in 1970-71, 1986, and 2010, extending an invitation to presiding officers from Commonwealth nations to attend the 2026 event in New Delhi.
