Amaravati, Feb 6 (NationPress) Former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and leader of the YSR Congress Party, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, asserted on Thursday that public discontent is escalating, ringing alarm bells for the coalition government in the state.
During a press briefing, he accused Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu of spreading blatant falsehoods throughout his nine months in office. He stated that the TDP-led government’s tenure has been characterized by destructive policy decisions, corruption, financial mismanagement, and deceit.
Jagan Mohan Reddy criticized the Chief Minister for his false statements regarding state finances, the execution of welfare schemes, governance, economic growth, and social welfare. He provided data to counter Naidu's assertions.
He alleged that Naidu deceived the public with empty promises. 'I warned during the election campaign that Chandrababu Naidu was making unrealistic and false commitments,' he stated.
The former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh mentioned that Naidu made 143 promises during the elections aimed at diverse groups but has not only failed to fulfill these but has also dismantled existing welfare programs, causing frustration among students, youth, women, farmers, and others. Instead of generating employment, Naidu has downsized and reassigned ward and village secretariat employees. He also pointed out that regular employees have been denied their dues and allowances.
'To date, he has borrowed or sought loans amounting to Rs 1.45 lakh crore, and with the burden of unfulfilled promises, he must explain where this money has gone. The widespread corruption in the state shows a pattern, resembling a cartel from local levels to top leadership, neglecting development and welfare. Numerous liquor outlets and gambling establishments are thriving throughout the state,' claimed Jagan Mohan Reddy.
'The wealth that Chandrababu claims to create is not for the public but for himself and his close associates. Otherwise, how can he justify rejecting medical seats and privatizing medical education while we have initiated the establishment of 17 medical colleges to enhance medical facilities and make education accessible to the underprivileged?' he posed.
He noted that the YSRCP government has developed four ports and ten fishing harbors, alleging that Naidu has handed these over to his associates.
'Chandrababu's silence regarding the Polavaram dam height and fund allocation indicates that his priorities lie elsewhere and not in the best interests of the state. This is also reflected in the recent budget, where Bihar, with fewer MPs, received a larger share while Andhra Pradesh has to settle for a meager allocation,' he remarked.
On the topic of state finances, Jagan Mohan Reddy asserted that his administration outperformed both the national average and the previous TDP government despite the impact of Covid. He claimed that there was a decline in state revenues during the period from June to December 2024.
The YSR Congress leader stated that for a long time, coalition leaders had spread misinformation claiming he borrowed Rs 14 lakh crore, but their own budget later revised this figure to Rs 6.46 lakh crore.
Jagan accused Chandrababu Naidu of mocking democracy during the recent urban local body elections, where the TDP proclaimed itself the winner without the requisite numbers, misusing official resources and employing unethical and coercive tactics.
