New Delhi, Feb 2 (NationPress) Former Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday condemned both the Delhi Police and the Election Commission (EC) regarding an alleged incident where journalists from Chandigarh were mishandled while covering the upcoming elections on February 5.

The Press Club of India (PCI) previously denounced the actions of the Delhi Police against these journalists, who traveled from Chandigarh to report on the Delhi Assembly elections.

“According to their complaints, personnel from the Delhi Police behaved inappropriately while they were engaged in reporting in the national capital. The harassment and intimidation of journalists has become a frequent occurrence throughout the country. We call upon the Delhi Election Commission and the Election Commission of India to step in and guarantee smooth and uninterrupted coverage of the elections,” the Press Club of India stated on X.

The PCI further demanded a comprehensive investigation into this incident.

In response to the PCI’s post on X, investigative journalist Saurav Das remarked, “Such rampant hooliganism in the nation’s capital during elections—one can only speculate about the situation in other states. The systematic dismantling of the Election Commission has been the greatest attack on India’s democracy.”

In reaction to Saurav Das’ comment, former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal stated, “The Election Commission no longer exists in India.”

Delhi is currently experiencing a triangular contest among the AAP, BJP, and Congress, with intense campaigning as all three parties strive to attract voters.

The 70-member Delhi Assembly is scheduled to hold elections on February 5, with the vote counting slated for February 8.
