Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 4 (NationPress) The Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE), which operates under the Kerala General Education Department, has successfully distributed 29,000 robotic kits to high schools throughout Kerala. This initiative aims to expose students to cutting-edge technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, and the Internet of Things (IoT).
The official event will be announced by V. Sivankutty, the Minister for General Education, during the Little KITEs state camp on February 8 at the ICFOSS campus.
On this day, an exhibition showcasing student-developed robotic projects will also take place.
After distributing 9,000 kits in 2022, KITE has introduced an additional 20,000 kits this year, supported by Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives. Contributions include 8,475 kits from the Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., 4,615 from Cochin Shipyard Ltd., and 1,000 each from QBurst Technologies and Canara Bank.
The open-hardware kits comprise components like Arduino Uno R3, LEDs, mini servo motors, LDRs, light and IR sensor modules, breadboards, buzzer modules, push-button switches, and resistors.
Available for under Rs 1,000 each, these kits make it simple for schools to source replacement parts.
Students can create prototypes for devices such as traffic signals, street lights, electronic voting machines (EVMs), and walking sticks.
The programming element encourages logical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
Little KITEs, recognized as the country's largest student ICT network, engages 1.8 lakh students each year and has been instrumental in this project.
As part of the program, 66,737 ninth-graders participated in school-level camps, 15,668 in sub-district camps, and 1,253 in district-level camps.
Moreover, animations created by students will be previewed during the event.
KITE, a state government organization, was established to promote and modernize educational institutions in Kerala.
An Infrastructure division has been launched under KITE to enhance the infrastructural facilities in schools.
KITE's scope includes Information & Communication Technology, Capacity Building, Content Development, Connectivity, e-Learning, satellite-based education, support and maintenance mechanisms, e-Governance, and related activities.
