Bhopal, Jan 10 (NationPress) A newly arrived tenant was left in disbelief when he stumbled upon the corpse of a woman in a refrigerator during his cleaning of the rented property located in Dewas district of Madhya Pradesh on Friday.

This shocking incident took place in a flat situated in Vrindavan Dham Colony, which had been unoccupied since June 2024.

The remains were uncovered on Friday morning when the new tenant, Balveer Singh, was tidying up the apartment.

Upon being alerted, the police swiftly arrived at the scene, where they discovered the body of a woman inside the refrigerator with her hands bound.

The body was sent for a postmortem examination, which indicated that the woman had been murdered approximately nine months earlier.

According to police reports, while cleaning his newly leased residence, Balveer Singh detected a strong unpleasant odor emanating from a locked room within the premises.

Upon opening the door to a freezer in that room, he found the body enclosed within it.

As the refrigerator was unplugged, a noxious smell began to permeate the house.

This foul odor caught the attention of another tenant residing in the adjoining part of the building.

The deceased woman's hands were tied behind her back, and her body had reached a state of decomposition, causing a repugnant odor in the house.

Police officials stated that the postmortem results confirmed that the woman had been strangled to death.

During the investigation, authorities discovered that the owner of the property, Dhirendra Srivastava, who resides in Indore, had rented the home to a couple in July 2023.

Srivastava informed the police that Sanjay Patidar (the tenant) had vacated the house in June 2024, and since that time, the residence remained locked.

Patidar, originally from Ujjain, had been living with his partner, Pratibha Prajapati.

However, Patidar subsequently vacated the flat citing various reasons.

After gathering information from the homeowner, a police unit traveled to Ujjain and apprehended Patidar at his residence, as stated by Dewas Superintendent of Police (SP) Puneet Gehlot.

Gehlot mentioned that during the investigation, officers learned that Pratibha and Sanjay Patidar were not legally married, but rather live-in partners.

"The accused, Sanjay Patidar, has been apprehended in Ujjain, and further investigations are ongoing," Gehlot added.
