New Delhi, Feb 8 (NationPress) Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal shared an image of ‘Draupadi Cheer Haran’ from the Mahabharata on Saturday, in light of her mentor and AAP National Convener Arvind Kejriwal’s defeat in the Assembly elections, leading to the party's exit from power in Delhi.

Her post gained significant traction on social media as it aimed to draw parallels between herself and Draupadi, while depicting AAP leaders as the Kauravas from the Mahabharata who disrespected her and ultimately faced dire consequences.

The AAP's loss in the elections marked a moment of sweet retribution for Maliwal, who was once a close ally of Kejriwal. She had claimed to be assaulted at the residence of the former Chief Minister by an aide of the AAP leader.

Her resentment towards Kejriwal and his colleagues arose from their lack of support in defending her dignity after the assault. While Kejriwal remained largely silent about the incident, certain AAP members accused Maliwal of siding with the BJP in efforts to tarnish the party's image.

Maliwal asserted that her assailant acted under Kejriwal's direction.

This incident significantly strained the relationship between Maliwal and Kejriwal, leading her to file a criminal complaint against Kejriwal’s aide, Bibhav Kumar, regarding the incident in May 2024.

Since then, Maliwal, who previously held the position of chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women, has been vocal against Kejriwal and AAP leaders on numerous matters, including pollution, the filthy state of the Yamuna, unsafe drinking water, and clogged sewage systems.

She has also conducted sit-ins outside Kejriwal’s residence multiple times to highlight issues of public concern.

Following AAP’s electoral defeat, Maliwal emphasized that it was time for Kejriwal to reflect, describing him as a man with “uncontrolled anger”.

She attributed the party’s loss to its disconnection from the electorate and the authoritarian leadership style of the party's senior figures.

Maliwal expressed her sorrow over witnessing the decline of a party to which she had dedicated 15 years.
