New Delhi, Feb 4 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized in Parliament on Tuesday that his administration has successfully lifted 25 crore individuals out of poverty over the last decade, supplied tap water to 16 crore households, and constructed 5 crore homes for underprivileged families, demonstrating its commitment to implementing initiatives aimed at the country’s economic growth.
In response to the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address in the Lok Sabha, PM Modi remarked: "In the past decade, citizens entrusted us to serve them, and 25 crore fellow Indians have overcome poverty, a point reiterated by numerous studies.
"Despite 75 years of Independence, 75 percent of households—nearly 16 crore homes—lacked tap water connections. In a mere five years, our government has delivered tap water to 12 crore families within their residences."
He noted that 4 crore houses have been allocated to the poor, and the government has constructed over 12 crore toilets to enhance the living standards of individuals, particularly women who have suffered the most due to inadequate facilities.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the 'farmers first' initiatives executed by his government, including an investment of Rs 12 lakh crore over recent years to provide farmers with affordable fertilizers.
Additionally, the government has transferred over Rs 3.5 lakh crore directly into farmers' bank accounts under the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi and increased the Minimum Support Price (MSP) to unprecedented levels, with procurement now threefold compared to a decade ago, he noted.
PM Modi also pointed out the substantial rise in medical college enrollments during his administration. He mentioned that in 2014, when the BJP assumed power, there were only 387 medical colleges in the nation.
This figure has now surged to 780 medical colleges, resulting in a significantly higher number of available seats for aspiring students, the Prime Minister highlighted.
In 2014, there were merely 3,800 MBBS seats reserved for ST students. Today, this number has nearly doubled to 9,000, he added.
"For OBC students, there were fewer than 14,000 MBBS seats before 2014. Now, this number has expanded to approximately 32,000, meaning that 32,000 OBC students will have the opportunity to become doctors," PM Modi stated.
"Over the past ten years, a new university has been established each week, a new ITI each day, and a new college every two days. Consider the growth in prospects for SC, ST, and OBC youth," the Prime Minister said.
PM Modi articulated that his administration has also prioritized youth aspirations, creating additional opportunities and expanding various sectors for them. Consequently, the youth of India are now displaying their potential on a global level, he added.
Referring to the advantages provided to the middle class, PM Modi noted that in 2013-14, the income tax exemption threshold was only Rs 2 lakh, which has now been elevated to Rs 12 lakh.
This change has resulted in complete tax relief for individuals earning up to Rs 12.75 lakh, as they are no longer required to pay taxes, he added.
PM Modi also underscored the establishment of Jan Aushadhi Kendras, which offer medications at an 80 percent discount, allowing families to collectively save nearly Rs 30,000 crore on medical expenses.
“This is merely our third term; we are devoted to constructing a modern, capable, and Viksit Bharat (developed India). For all of us, the nation must always be a priority. Let us unite and turn the vision of a Viksit Bharat into our collective goal—a dream shared by 140 crore Indians," the Prime Minister concluded.
