With this introduction, a total of 12 cheetahs will now roam freely in this pristine wilderness.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav shared the exciting news via his social media: "A remarkable advancement for cheetah breeding in Kuno National Park! Jwala, the female cheetah imported from Namibia, along with her four newly born cubs (two males and two females), will be liberated in the open forest within the Khajuri tourism area today (Friday)."

Currently, seven cheetahs are already enjoying their liberty in Kuno National Park. With the addition of five more, the total will rise to 12, which is certain to enhance the allure for tourists flocking to the area.

The Chief Minister further highlighted, "This initiative will not only enhance our biodiversity but also reaffirm our dedication to cheetah restoration in India."

Earlier, on December 4, 2024, two male cheetahs - Vayu and Agni - were set free, marking more than two years since eight cheetahs were transported from Namibia to Kuno National Park.

On February 5, 2025, five more cheetahs were released in the wild at Kuno National Park in Sheopur, just a day after the cheetah Veera gave birth to two cubs, bringing the total number of cheetahs in the state to 26.

This endeavor is leading to a remarkable surge in tourism, generating new job opportunities.

CM Yadav reinforced the state’s unwavering commitment to the conservation, promotion, and restoration of all wildlife, including cheetahs.

Kuno National Park, named after the Kuno River, was established in 1981 as a wildlife sanctuary, originally covering an area of 344.686 square kilometers.

On September 17, 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced cheetahs brought from Namibia to Kuno National Park.

The introduction of these cheetahs is part of Project Cheetah, recognized as the world’s first inter-continental large wild carnivore translocation project.
