Mumbai, Jan 22 (NationPress) The Mumbai Police have uncovered a piece of cloth from actor Saif Ali Khan's residence, which is linked to Shariful Islam Shehzad Mohammad, the Bangladeshi suspect arrested in the attack case.

Sources reveal that the Bandra police retrieved the cloth from Khan's home, which the suspect used to conceal his identity. The fabric fell from his face in Saif's son Jahangir's room during the altercation.

The CCTV footage shows Shehzad ascending the stairs just before the crime occurred. The police have forwarded the cloth and hair samples for DNA testing to the forensic unit.

Previously, officials indicated that Shehzad had accessed the actor's building, Satguru Sharan, in the Bandra area by climbing over its perimeter wall and discovered the security guards asleep.

According to sources, both security personnel were dozing when the intruder entered by scaling the boundary wall.

It was reported that upon noticing the sleeping guards, Shehzad proceeded through the main entrance where no CCTV camera was present. He removed his shoes and stored them in his bag to minimize sound. He also turned off his phone.

On Tuesday, the police recreated the crime scene with the suspect at the location. Authorities traced Shehzad's route after he fled from Saif Ali Khan's apartment. Shehzad was taken to the garden adjacent to the Satguru Sharan building and later to the National College Bus Stop, where he is believed to have paused for a period after the attack. During the investigation, police escorted him to the Bandra Railway Station from which he escaped. The police are working to uncover how he managed to reach the station.

The police aimed to document the sequence of events from Shehzad's entry into the building to his escape prior to his capture.

Saif Ali Khan was attacked and stabbed six times by Shehzad within his apartment in the early hours of January 16. The actor underwent emergency surgery at Lilavati Hospital and was discharged on Tuesday. Three days following the assault, authorities apprehended the suspect in the neighboring city of Thane.

A court in Mumbai on Sunday placed the suspect in five-day police custody.

Shehzad, originally from Jhalokathi district in Bangladesh, had been living in Mumbai for over five months and was engaged in various odd jobs, reportedly associated with a housekeeping agency, according to police.
