Kochi, March 14 (NationPress) Following a tip-off to the Kochi DCP, Kerala Police officials were taken aback when they arrived at the men’s hostel of Kalamassery Government Polytechnic College late Thursday evening, discovering two kilograms of ganja.

The students had stockpiled this ganja intending to sell it during the Holi celebrations scheduled for Friday in the hostel. “Upon entering the room, we found the students packaging the ganja into small packets for sale. This was recovered from two rooms. Three students were apprehended, while three others escaped,” stated a senior police officer involved in the operation.

“Last month, we had previously detained a former student from this college for possessing ganja,” the officer added. It has come to light that the ganja was sourced from a supplier, also identified as a Malayalee, whom the police have tracked down.

The police operation, which commenced on Thursday night, persisted until 4 am on Friday, resulting in the detention of SFI union leader Abhiraj along with two others, Adidityan and Akash.

Both Abhiraj and Adidityan were granted station bail Friday morning, as the quantity of ganja seized permitted it. However, Akash remains in custody due to approximately 1.9 kilograms of ganja found with him and will be presented before a local court soon.

In the meantime, local SFI leaders have pointed fingers at two students, Adil and Ananthu, affiliated with the KSU, the student arm of the Congress Party. “Adil, Akash’s roommate, fled during the raid. SFI leader Abhiraj was not present in the room at the time of the raid, and nothing was recovered from him. Yet, the media is focusing solely on SFI,” remarked SFI leader Devaraj.

Dr. Ayju Thomas, Principal of the college, expressed her discontent over the arrests and the negative impact on the institution's reputation, announcing that all detained students would face suspension.

State Excise Minister M.B. Rajesh affirmed that the law will take its course regardless of any political affiliations of the offenders.
