Srinagar, Jan 20 (NationPress) A soldier from the army was tragically lost on Monday during an encounter between joint forces and terrorists in the Sopore sub-division of Jammu and Kashmir.

According to officials, the soldier, who sustained injuries earlier on Monday amidst the gunfire exchanges in the Gujjarpati forests of Zaloora in the Sopore sub-division, ultimately succumbed to his grave injuries while being transported to a medical facility.

On Sunday, collaborative teams consisting of the army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the CRPF established a cordon around the Gujjarpati area, leading to the discovery of a terrorist hideout.

During their operations, the security forces faced gunfire, which initiated an encounter that resulted in the soldier’s injuries and subsequent death. Officials have indicated that the operation is ongoing, and further updates are pending.

The security forces have been engaged in robust operations against terrorists, their over-ground workers (OGWs), and supporters.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has mandated the relentless pursuit of terrorists following a series of heinous attacks that occurred post the peaceful and participative Lok Sabha and Legislative Assembly elections.

Intelligence reports indicate that the terrorists' handlers across the border in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) have expressed frustration regarding the substantial voter turnout in these elections.

It is believed that these handlers have instructed terrorists to execute attacks against army personnel, security forces, police, and civilians to assert their presence and create a sense of fear among the peace-loving residents of the union territory.

Terrorist activities have been reported in Kathua, Rajouri, Poonch, Udhampur, Doda, Kishtwar, and Ramban districts in the Jammu division, with their reach extending to the Valley in the last quarter of 2024.

On October 20 last year, seven civilians, comprising six non-local workers and a local doctor, were tragically killed by terrorists in the Gagangir area of Ganderbal district.

On October 24, 2024, three army soldiers and two civilian porters lost their lives when terrorists ambushed their vehicle in the Botapathri area of Gulmarg.

On November 2 last year, a terrorist attack involving a grenade was launched at the bustling Sunday Market near the tourist reception center (TRC) in Srinagar. That attack resulted in the death of a 42-year-old woman from Bandipora district, a mother of three, while injuring 11 other civilians.
