Amaravati, Jan 24 (NationPress) In a notable turn of events, the parliamentary party leader of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) and general secretary, V. Vijayasai Reddy, declared on Friday his decision to step away from political life.

He stated his intention to resign from his Rajya Sabha seat on Saturday, emphasizing that he has no plans to affiliate with any other political entity.

As a close confidant of YSRCP president and former chief minister, Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, as well as a financial advisor to the YSR family, Vijayasai Reddy asserted that this choice is solely personal.

“My resignation does not aim for any position, advantage, or financial benefit. This decision is entirely personal. I am under no pressure, coercion, or undue influence. I will remain eternally grateful to the YS family for their support over four decades and three generations,” Vijayasai Reddy expressed in a post on ‘X’.

“I will always appreciate YS Jagan Garu for the chance to serve as a Rajya Sabha member on two occasions, particularly to Bharatamma Garu, who guided me to new heights in the political sphere. I pray for Jagan Garu's good health, great success, everlasting happiness, and a prosperous future,” he added, recalling his deepening bond with Jagan following the tragic demise of his father and former chief minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy (YSR), in a helicopter crash in 2009.

“As the parliamentary party leader, Rajya Sabha floor leader, and national general secretary of the YSRCP, I have dedicated myself sincerely and uncompromisingly for the welfare of the party and the state. I have acted as a link between the Centre and the state to foster a positive relationship and secure maximum benefits for our region,” remarked Vijayasai Reddy.

He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, noting that their backing during his nine-year tenure empowered him and brought him recognition in the Telugu states. “Though I may have had political differences with TDP, there are no personal issues with Chandrababu Garu and his family. My friendship with Pawan Kalyan Garu will remain intact,” he stated. Vijayasai Reddy, a former chartered accountant, revealed that he will now turn his focus towards agriculture.

“I sincerely thank the people of my state, my friends, colleagues, party workers, and everyone who has supported me throughout my extensive political journey. I am grateful to each one of you,” he concluded. Having been closely associated with the YSR family since the 1980s, he became a crucial aide to Jagan following YSR’s passing and was named as accused number two by the CBI in the disproportionate assets cases linked to Jagan in 2012.

Recognized as a smart strategist within YSRCP, he rose to prominence after the party secured victory in Andhra Pradesh in 2019. As the YSRCP parliamentary party leader, he was instrumental in garnering the support of the BJP-led NDA for the state and the party. Last year, he ran unsuccessfully for the Lok Sabha from the Nellore constituency. His resignation marks the latest in a series of challenges for YSRCP following their loss of power last year, with Vijayasai Reddy being the fourth Rajya Sabha MP to depart from the party.
