Patna, Feb 21 (NationPress) Following the tragic murder of a 14-year-old student, a significant number of villagers took to the streets on Friday, blocking the Delhi-Kolkata National Highway (NH) at Dehri, insisting on immediate justice. The victim, Amit Kumar, was shot while returning home after his board exams, sparking outrage among the community, who are demanding the perpetrators' arrest.
Protesters resorted to burning tyres and obstructing traffic on the highway in their demonstration. In response, local authorities dispatched a substantial police contingent to engage with the demonstrators, promising prompt action.
The circumstances surrounding the murder in Rohtas district have raised serious concerns, with claims suggesting it was a premeditated attack. Amit's brother, Neeraj Kumar, revealed that the conflict originated from a dispute during their examination.
Neeraj stated that a fellow student, Sumit Kumar, had threatened them during the exam for refusing to assist him in cheating. He recounted, “Sumit was not writing the questions on his answer sheets. He was asking us to write the answers for him which we denied. He had threatened us with dire consequences inside the examination hall. When we came out, he called his friends with firearms and traditional arms like swords and batons.”
“After we took an auto home, Sumit and five to six accomplices, riding on three bikes, pursued us and opened fire. My brother Manju Kumar was hit in the leg and fell onto the road. They compelled the auto driver to halt. As soon as the vehicle stopped, the students attempted to flee, and they fired indiscriminately, with a bullet striking Amit in his back,” Neeraj explained.
Amit and Manju were rushed to Sadar Hospital, but Amit tragically succumbed to his injuries, while Manju remains in the hospital.
The police have initiated an investigation, exploring various angles, including the alleged threats and the supposed planned attack. A murder and attempted murder case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Act has been lodged at Mufassil police station.
The SHO of Mufassil police station has assured that the accused will be apprehended soon.
