Kolkata, Feb 4 (NationPress) A young man was taken into custody on Tuesday for allegedly raping a tribal woman in Gosaba, located in the South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal.
After the woman was found unresponsive, she was transported to a nearby medical facility where she unfortunately passed away shortly thereafter.
According to the report filed by the victim's daughter-in-law, the suspect committed the act after intoxicating the 65-year-old victim and her son on Monday night.
The local authorities have launched an inquiry into the incident. The deceased's body has been sent for a post-mortem examination.
The complainant stated that the perpetrator visited their home on Monday evening, bringing alcohol and offering it to both the victim and her son.
As described in her account, the three individuals began drinking together and became heavily intoxicated.
“With no one else present at the time, I repeatedly urged the accused to leave, but he refused. I then sought assistance from neighbors to help remove him from my home. Upon returning, I saw the accused fleeing. I then found my mother-in-law lying unconscious in the kitchen without clothing, while my husband was in a drunken and semi-unconscious state in a nearby room,” the complainant reported.
Local residents managed to apprehend the suspect, who was severely assaulted before being handed over to the police.
Initially, the victim was taken to Gosaba Block Rural Hospital, but due to her deteriorating condition, she was later transferred to Canning Sub-Divisional Hospital, where she died soon after.
