New Delhi, April 24 (NationPress) In a notable move to promote indigenous clean air innovations, the government on Thursday provided financial backing to Gurugram-based Urban Air Labs for their exceptional initiative in this domain.

The funding from the Technology Development Board (TDB), which operates under the Department of Science and Technology (DST), is allocated for their project named “Development & Commercialization of a Made in India Efficient Wall-Mounted Air-Purification System for Indoor Premises.”

This initiative signifies a dedication to enhancing the Air Quality Index (AQI) within indoor environments through groundbreaking, plant-based purification technologies designed to eliminate both particulate and gaseous pollutants.

TDB’s financial support to this innovative startup emphasizes its belief in the project’s ability to provide sustainable, scientifically-supported air purification solutions.

The assistance aims to foster innovation in climate-conscious technologies while reinforcing India’s self-sufficiency as part of the ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiatives, according to the Ministry of Science and Technology.

The primary technology utilized in this product combines natural plant-based filtration with sophisticated engineering. Based on the ‘Urban Munnar Effect’ and a patented process known as ‘Breathing Roots’, the system amplifies the natural air-purifying abilities of leafy indoor plants.

Air from the room is drawn towards the plant leaves and then funneled into the soil-root zone, where the purification process is heightened. The device includes a centrifugal fan that generates suction pressure, enabling the cleaned air—processed through the roots—to be distributed in 360 degrees throughout the indoor area.

Encased in a specially crafted planter box, the ‘uBreathe Life’ system is recognized as a compact, visually appealing, and efficient wall-mounted solution designed for homes, offices, hospitals, and various indoor settings.

This directly confronts the escalating public health issue of subpar indoor air quality and signifies a revolutionary advancement in sustainable air purification.

“TDB’s endorsement of Urban Air Labs illustrates our commitment to supporting indigenous solutions that tackle urgent environmental challenges. The synergy of biotechnology and engineering in this project presents a scalable and sustainable method to improve indoor air quality, aligning with the nation’s clean technology objectives,” stated Rajesh Kumar Pathak, Secretary, TDB.
