Mumbai, Feb 2 (NationPress) Agni Chopra, son of esteemed filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra and film critic Anupama Chopra, expressed immense joy upon receiving the Madhavrao Scindia Award for the Top Run Getter in the Ranji Trophy Plate League during the BCCI annual awards ceremony from his childhood idol, Indian captain Rohit Sharma.
With an impressive total of 939 runs in the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy season and an average nearing 80, Agni's performance exemplified his relentless pursuit of excellence and the consistency needed to excel at the first-class level.
This moment was a dream realized for the young athlete, as he joined a celebrated group in a memorable photograph alongside cricket legends such as Sachin Tendulkar, R Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah, Sarfaraz Khan, and Smriti Mandhana.
“Receiving this award from Rohit bhai, who also hails from Mumbai and has been my idol for many years, is truly special. I have followed his career for nearly half my life, and it feels surreal to be honored by the captain of India,” Agni stated after the ceremony.
“Having my parents cheering for me was an extraordinary experience, as they have always been my pillars of support during challenging times, especially when I was fluctuating in and out of the Mumbai team.
“I am thrilled to see my efforts recognized, and it is particularly significant to receive an award for the Ranji Trophy, a tournament with such a rich history. I am truly grateful for this recognition,” he added.
Agni received invaluable advice from his father, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, during his teenage years: “Whatever profession you pursue, give it your all.”
Though it was a challenging choice to leave Mumbai and step outside his comfort zone to compete in first-class cricket for a North Eastern state where the sport is still developing, Agni found acceptance in Mizoram cricket, marking the beginning of a remarkable cricketing journey for the 26-year-old.
Agni is determined to elevate Mizoram into the Elite group through his performances and ultimately earn a spot on the India Test team.
