New Delhi, Feb 3 (NationPress) The five-day training camp for the Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships is set to take place at the National Centre of Excellence in Guwahati from February 4 to 8, as announced by the Badminton Association of India (BAI) on Monday.
The Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships will occur in Qingdao, China from February 11 to 16. The Indian team is scheduled to depart for China on the night of February 8.
Leading a 14-member Indian squad is PV Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medallist, alongside Lakshya Sen, who reached the semi-finals in the Paris Olympics. The team had previously claimed a bronze medal in the last edition held in 2023.
In addition to Sindhu and Sen, the team features prominent players like Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, both Asian Games gold medallists, as well as Olympian HS Prannoy and others.
According to Sanjay Mishra, secretary general of BAI, “The NCE has been dedicated to nurturing emerging juniors since its establishment, and hosting a senior team camp here provides juniors a chance to learn from the best while allowing India’s elite talents to train together, fostering an optimal team bonding environment ahead of this significant team event.”
“The camp aims not only to enhance technical skills but also to instill values of discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship among the participants. Players will engage in a holistic development experience that prepares them for upcoming challenges,” he added.
Following her marriage in December of the previous year, Sindhu is eager to restart her international career. She will be training with the team at the cutting-edge NCE facility in Guwahati.
Both Satwik and Chirag are also looking forward to the advantages of training in a fresh environment to enhance team cohesion. The interaction among all members, strategic planning, and developing a robust team dynamic will be crucial for their success in forthcoming team events.
