Bristol, Feb 21 (NationPress) Australia’s fast-bowling all-rounder Cameron Green has been acquired by Gloucestershire to participate in five County Championship matches during April and May. Green, aged 25, will kick off his tenure with Gloucestershire’s clash against Kent on April 18 and conclude with the encounter against Northamptonshire starting on May 23.
Since making his debut in December 2020, Green has featured in 28 Tests for Australia, accumulating 1,377 runs at an average of 36.23 with the bat, while also claiming 35 wickets at an average of 35.31. He was pivotal in securing Australia’s victory over India in the 2023 World Test Championship Final, finishing with figures of 2-44 in the first innings.
Head coach Mark Alleyne commented, "Cameron Green’s talent is beyond doubt, and he undoubtedly ranks among the best. He typically plays a crucial role for the top Test team globally, and having his experience in our squad is remarkable for the players around him. We have significant ambitions across all formats in 2025, and Cameron's signing will bolster this vision."
Green has been sidelined since September of last year due to a stress fracture in his lower back, which required surgery in Christchurch, New Zealand. He is anticipated to serve as a specialist batter for Gloucestershire. His time in the County will also serve as preparation for Australia’s upcoming World Test Championship Final against South Africa at Lord's, commencing on June 11.
Gloucestershire Cricket Chair Peter Matthews expressed, "We are thrilled to welcome Cameron to Gloucestershire, and we will do everything possible to ensure he has a fulfilling and successful time in Bristol. This agreement was made possible thanks to a generous contribution from a Club Member, and we are extremely grateful for this support, which has allowed us to proceed without exceeding our playing budget."
Gloucestershire, led by Green's Australia teammate Cameron Bancroft, will kick off their County Championship Division Two campaign on April 4 with an away game against Derbyshire.
