Harbin (China), Feb 3 (NationPress) China's Olympic champions, including Sheng Lihao, Wu Dajing, and Sui Wenjing, took part in the torch relay for the 9th Asian Winter Games in this city on Monday. They commended the event's organization and sent their best wishes to the competing athletes. Wu Dajing, a short-track speed skater and two-time Winter Olympic gold medalist at PyeongChang 2018 and Beijing 2022, shared his enthusiasm about witnessing young talent emerge.

"It's my honour to participate in the torch relay," Wu expressed. "As a veteran, I admire the younger generation of skaters and wish them good luck in the competition," added the 30-year-old.

Sheng Lihao, who secured two gold medals at Paris 2024, offered guidance on managing nerves to the young athletes preparing to compete. "I always tackle challenging situations by concentrating on myself. I hope all Chinese athletes can perform at their best during the Asian Winter Games," Sheng stated to Xinhua.

When Wang Shun, the Olympic champion swimmer, carried the torch, the last torchbearer of the Hangzhou Asian Games opening ceremony ignited excitement among the crowd in Harbin. "I am thrilled. Despite the chilly weather, I can feel the passion and enthusiasm of Harbin's citizens. The torch relay has shared the spirit of sportsmanship with everyone," Wang remarked.

Sui Wenjing, the Olympic figure skating champion, wrapped up the relay as the final torchbearer among 120 participants.

Alongside her participation in the closing ceremony for the relay, Sui has been instrumental in preparing for the Games in her hometown, taking on the role of director for the opening ceremony on Friday. "When I was competing on the ice, my focus was solely on my own actions and performance. As a director, I must constantly communicate with my performers via earphones while they are on stage," Sui explained. "I will endeavor to assist them in delivering their best performance at the opening ceremony, and I wish the event tremendous success," added the 29-year-old.
