New Delhi, Jan 4 (NationPress) The Esports Federation of India (ESFI) is optimistic that the Olympic Council of Asia's decision to incorporate Esports as a medal event in the 3rd Asian Youth Games, set to take place in Bahrain from October 22 to 31, 2025, will act as a significant driver for the expansion of competitive gaming throughout the nation and discover outstanding next-generation talent.
This marks the inaugural inclusion of Esports in the Asian Youth Games, allowing esports athletes to engage with emerging stars from 20 other sports disciplines across 45 member nations, all within the age bracket of 14-17 years.
Lokesh Suji, the Director of ESFI and Vice President of the Asian Esports Federation (AESF), was understandably thrilled with the announcement and expressed his belief that this development could significantly enhance grassroots esports initiatives in India.
“The Asian Youth Games is yet another esteemed platform that has acknowledged Esports as a competitive discipline. With Esports already included in the Asian Games as a medal sport, this decision will open doors for more opportunities and support for grassroots and talent scouting of esports athletes, ultimately helping to establish a comprehensive esports ecosystem for competitive gaming,” he stated.
India has consistently achieved podium finishes in international esports competitions, such as the League of Legends team securing fifth place in the 2022 Asian Games, a silver medal in Tekken 8 at the BRICS Esports Championship, and a bronze medal in eFootball at the Asian Esports Games 2024.
With esports already featured in the Asian Games, Asian Indoor Games, and the upcoming inaugural Olympic Esports Games later this year, its inclusion in the Asian Youth Games will significantly benefit the sport in the region.
