Dubai, Feb 23 (NationPress) The extraordinary Virat Kohli has made history by becoming the fastest player to achieve 14,000 ODI runs, a remarkable feat he accomplished during the intense Group A encounter against Pakistan in the 2025 Champions Trophy at the Dubai International Stadium.

While chasing a target of 242 runs, Kohli reached the 14,000 ODI runs milestone with a stunning drive off Haris Rauf for four runs on the second delivery of the 13th over. He is now the third player and the quickest to achieve this landmark, reaching it in only 287 innings.

Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, who tops the all-time ODI runs list with 18,426, took 350 innings to reach the 14,000 runs mark, while Sri Lanka's iconic wicketkeeper-batsman Kumar Sangakkara, currently in second place with 14,234 runs, achieved this milestone in 378 innings.

Since his ODI debut against Sri Lanka in 2008, Kohli has set records for the fastest accumulation of 8,000, 9,000, 10,000, 11,000, 12,000, 13,000, and now 14,000 runs in the international 50-over format. He reached 14,000 ODI runs in 63 fewer innings than Tendulkar.

Kohli also boasts the record for the most centuries in ODIs, with a total of 50 tons, surpassing Tendulkar's previous record during the 2023 Men’s ODI World Cup. Earlier in the match, Kohli overtook Mohammad Azharuddin to claim the record for the most catches by a fielder for India in ODIs.

At the age of 36, Kohli made a catch of Naseem Shah off Kuldeep Yadav's bowling in the 47th over, marking his 157th catch, which moved him past Azharuddin’s 156 catches. He further added to his tally by catching Khushdil Shah at deep mid-wicket off Harshit Rana's delivery, as India dismissed Pakistan for 241 runs.

Other prominent Indian players on this elite list include Sachin Tendulkar (140), Rahul Dravid (124), and Suresh Raina (102). Kohli now sits at the third position for the most catches taken by a fielder in men's ODIs, following Mahela Jayawardene (218) and Ricky Ponting (160).
