Bengaluru, Feb 23 (NationPress) India’s emerging talent Manas Dhamne is poised to make his debut in the main draw at the 2025 Bengaluru Open, riding high on his recent victory at the ITF M15 tournament in Monastir, Tunisia.
The 17-year-old has been making significant strides on the tennis circuit and is excited to advance his career further after receiving a wild card for the singles main draw.
“I have been delivering some solid performances and practicing effectively. I believe my chances are promising; I feel quite confident. This tournament offers a wonderful opportunity for growth as I compete against skilled players. I appreciate the stadium and facilities here, and it’s inspiring to see the passion for tennis among the fans,” said Manas.
As he prepares for his inaugural Bengaluru Open match, Dhamne is concentrating on his own game rather than focusing on his opponent.
“It’s my first time in the main draw, so I’m aiming to showcase a strong performance. I’m still determining how I’ll tackle the match because my strategy remains the same, regardless of who I face. My goal is to enjoy the experience,” he added.
The Bengaluru Open 2025, organized by the All-India Tennis Association (AITA) and the Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association (KSLTA), is an ATP Challenger 125 tournament and stands as India’s premier tour-level tennis event. India has made a powerful start in the first round of the Bengaluru Open 2025 qualifiers, with Davis Cup players Karan Singh and Mukund Sasikumar achieving noteworthy victories. Singh, who contributed to India’s convincing 4-0 win over Togo in the Davis Cup World Group I Playoffs, demonstrated excellent form by defeating Ukraine’s Yurii Dzhavakian, the 12th seed in qualifying, with a score of 7-5, 6-3. Meanwhile, Sasikumar triumphed over fellow Indian Rishi Reddy in a nearly two-hour battle, winning 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.
Young Indian prodigy Aryan Shah also made headlines by upsetting fifth seed Kris Van Wyk with a 6-4, 7-6(4) victory. However, it was a mixed day for India, as Siddharth Rawat lost to Czech Republic’s Hynek Barton, who secured a 6-4, 6-4 win. Niki Kaliyanda Poonacha, a doubles finalist at the Delhi Open 2025, also exited the tournament after a three-set loss to Petr Bar Biryukov.
Among the top-seeded qualifiers, Billy Harris, fresh off his runner-up finish at the Delhi Open 2025, easily defeated India’s Siddharth Vishwakarma in straight sets. Second seed Ilia Simakin also progressed, overpowering Japan’s Ryuki Matsuda in a dominant performance.
