Mumbai, Jan 31 (NationPress) The organizers of the Mumbai Open 2025, the fourth edition of the WTA 125 Series event, have awarded wildcards to players including India No.1 Sahaja Yamalapalli and experienced Ankita Raina for the main draw of the competition, which is set to take place from February 3 to 9 at the Cricket Club of India (CCI) here.
Additionally, wildcards were granted to Shrivalli Bhamidipathy, India’s No. 3 player, and Vaishnavi Adkar, who holds the title of Maharashtra's top-ranked player. Wildcards for the Qualifying Round have been assigned to Maaya Rajeshwaran and Akansha Nitture, the second-highest-ranked player from Maharashtra. The eagerly awaited fourth edition of the Mumbai Open features a total prize purse of USD 125,000 and will kick off with the Qualifying Rounds starting Saturday.
Hosted by the Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association (MSLTA), this WTA 125 Series tournament will display a remarkable lineup of international stars alongside India’s most promising talents competing for prestigious accolades on the famous hard courts of the CCI.
Leading the international field is Tatjana Maria, currently ranked World No. 73 and a three-time singles champion, who has achieved consecutive victories at the 2023 and 2024 Copa Colsanitas WTA 250 tournaments in Colombia. The 2022 Wimbledon semi-finalist is among the favorites for this year’s title.
The tournament carries a rich history of champions, with World No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka winning the title in 2017, followed by Luksika Kumkhum from Thailand in 2018. Defending champion Darja Semenistaja of Latvia and rising talent Alexandra Eala from the Philippines are also expected to make a significant impact in this year’s event. India’s Maaya Rajeshwaran, currently training at the Rafael Nadal Academy, will be competing for a spot through the qualifying rounds.
