Srinagar, Feb 2 (NationPress) The frigid temperatures in Srinagar did not hinder Real Kashmir FC as they warmed the hearts of their supporters with an impressive 2-0 victory against Shillong Lajong FC during an I-League 2024-25 clash at the TRC Football Turf on Sunday.
Aminou Bouba and Kamal Issah netted goals in each half, allowing the Snow Leopards to extend their unbeaten streak at home to eight matches, which includes five victories and three draws.
This win advanced Real Kashmir to the fourth spot in the standings, accumulating 19 points from 12 matches. Meanwhile, Lajong's struggles continued, leaving them in seventh place with 16 points from the same number of games.
Defying the cold weather, the Snow Leopards displayed no signs of slowing down. They made a strong comeback after their previous defeat to Churchill Brothers in Goa. With robust home support, their cohesive teamwork and tactical discipline were evident as they dominated the match from the beginning.
Lajong entered the game with confidence following a Northeast Derby win against Aizawl FC, creating several chances early on. However, Real Kashmir's goalkeeper Zahid Bukhari was resolute, first saving a powerful shot from Figo Syndai and then deflecting a long-range effort from Phrangki Buam onto the crossbar.
Real Kashmir also had their chances when Kamal Issah attempted to score from a goalmouth scramble, but Aman Ahlawat of Lajong executed a crucial goalline clearance.
The deadlock was finally broken during stoppage time of the first half when a long throw from the left found Bouba Aminou in the box, and the Cameroonian headed in his third goal of the season, putting Real Kashmir ahead.
In the second half, Lajong sought to penetrate with swift passing but were continually blocked by Real Kashmir’s sturdy defense.
The match was sealed for the Snow Leopards in the 88th minute when Mohammed Aqib delivered an exceptional long ball to Issah. The Ghanaian midfielder showcased his physicality and pace, easily surpassing Maxderidoff Wahlang of Lajong to finish smoothly past an advancing Sarkar, securing another three points for Real Kashmir at home.
