Stokes Left Out as Root Rejoins England's ODI Squad for Upcoming India Tour and Champions Trophy
London, Dec 22 (NationPress) Test captain Ben Stokes has been excluded from England's line-up for next year's white-ball tour of India and Champions Trophy, marking Joe Root's return to the 50-over format.

London, Dec 22 (NationPress) Test captain Ben Stokes has not been included in England's squads for the upcoming white-ball tour of India and the Champions Trophy as Joe Root makes his return to the 50-over format.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced on Sunday that Stokes' absence from the squads is attributed to ongoing assessments related to a left hamstring injury he suffered during the third Test against New Zealand in Hamilton earlier this month, where England faced a defeat by 423 runs.

Renowned batter Root, who maintains an average of 47.60 in ODIs, reenters the 50-over setup for the first time since the 2023 ODI World Cup held in India. Root is selected exclusively for the ODI tour of India, while leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed is included solely for the T20I segment of the tour.

The fast-bowling lineup features Jofra Archer, Mark Wood (who has recovered from a right elbow injury), Gus Atkinson, Brydon Carse, Saqib Mahmood, and Jamie Overton, with Sam Curran and Reece Topley omitted.

Adil Rashid is named in both squads, with Root, Liam Livingstone, and Jacob Bethell also expected to support him in the 50-over format. Besides captain Jos Buttler, Phil Salt, Ben Duckett, and Jamie Smith complete the batting lineup, leaving Will Jacks without a place.

England is set to play five T20Is against India from January 22 to February 2 in Kolkata, Chennai, Rajkot, Pune, and Mumbai. This will be followed by three ODIs between the teams from February 6-12 in Nagpur, Cuttack, and Ahmedabad, while the schedule for the Champions Trophy is yet to be released by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

This tour and tournament will mark England's first under head coach Brendon McCullum as white-ball coach, with the T20I squad expected to depart for India on January 17.

England's squad for the upcoming ODI tour of India and Champions Trophy includes: Jos Buttler (Captain), Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson, Jacob Bethell, Harry Brook, Brydon Carse, Ben Duckett, Jamie Overton, Jamie Smith, Liam Livingstone, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Saqib Mahmood, Phil Salt, and Mark Wood.

The England T20I squad for the India tour comprises: Jos Buttler (Captain), Rehan Ahmed, Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson, Jacob Bethell, Harry Brook, Brydon Carse, Ben Duckett, Jamie Overton, Jamie Smith, Liam Livingstone, Adil Rashid, Saqib Mahmood, Phil Salt, and Mark Wood.
