Kuala Lumpur, Feb 2 (NationPress) Before setting off to compete in her second U19 Women’s T20 World Cup, Trisha Gongadi expressed to IANS her desire to conclude her journey in this age group on a triumphant note, confidently predicting that the Indian team would secure victory in Malaysia.

Fast forward to the present, and Trisha delivered on her promise by achieving figures of 3-15 and scoring an unbeaten 44, contributing to India's remarkable title defense with a dominant nine-wicket win against South Africa at the Bayuemas Oval on Sunday.

Relishing the achievement of guiding India to its second consecutive U19 World Cup title—this time without a single defeat—Trisha remarked, “This means everything to me. Right now, I can’t express what I feel.”

She continued, “I am grateful to my team and support staff. I bowled to my strengths today, just as I did in previous matches. I look up to Mithali di; she is my idol. I hope future World Cups are hosted in India.”

Adding to her accolades, Trisha was named Player of the Tournament for amassing 309 runs and taking seven wickets throughout the competition, highlighted by a stunning century against Scotland.

She received her Player of the Tournament award from Neetu David, a former left-arm spinner and ICC Hall of Fame inductee, who is currently the chief selector of the Indian women’s senior team.

“I want to dedicate this award to my father, who is present in the stadium. Without him, I wouldn’t be here. I have been focusing on enhancing my power game. Our batting coach, Apurva Desai, informed me I would be opening the innings and advised me to prepare. I consider myself an all-rounder, eager to play for my country and continue achieving victories.”

“Girls, we threw the cup!” cheered wicketkeeper G Kamalini during the post-final celebrations. India’s vice-captain Sanika Chalke described the experience as surreal. “It’s an incredible feeling. I’ve envisioned this moment for the past two years. I can’t believe I was able to score the winning runs. Although I didn’t bat much, I aimed to contribute on the field. This is a significant milestone for us,” she shared.
