Jamshedpur, Jan 9 (NationPress) Amateur Saanvi Somu from Bangalore made impressive birdies on the final two holes for the second day running, allowing her to tie for the lead in the first Leg of the Women’s Pro Golf Tour 2025 at the Golmuri Golf Course here on Thursday. Saanvi, who previously birdied the 17th and 18th holes on the first day to finish with a crucial 75, repeated the feat again. This time, however, she recorded a commendable score of 3-under 69 with three birdies and no bogeys.
The rising amateur star, who has previously placed as runner-up in the WPGT, birdied the fourth hole and then added gains on the 17th and 18th, delivering the day’s only bogey-free round and also the tournament's only sub-par score thus far. Saanvi now stands at even par 144 after two days in the Rs.12 lakh event.
A total of 20 players made the cut, which was set at 158.
Saanvi shares the top position with two of the co-leaders from the first day, Rhea Purvi Saravanan (72-72) and Durga Nittur (72-72), both of whom also recorded their second consecutive even-par rounds at the Golmuri Golf Course, which is hosting a Hero WPGT event for the first time. Rhea and Durga, who played in the same group, had contrasting performances. Rhea maintained consistency with just one birdie on the 10th after an early bogey on the Par-5 second hole.
Durga experienced a mix of highs and lows, navigating through eight holes from the third to the tenth with four birdies and four bogeys. She then bogeyed the 15th but salvaged her round with a birdie on the 18th, finishing at even par with five birdies and five bogeys in total. Sneha Singh, one of the three leaders after Day One, faced challenges on her second day. The 2023 Hero WPGT Order of Merit winner encountered six bogeys, two of which came on Par-5s, alongside just two birdies, resulting in a score of 76 that dropped her to sixth place.
Amandeep Drall and Jasmine Shekar both produced their second consecutive rounds of 73, tying for fourth at 2-over 146. Ananya Garg (75-74) placed seventh, while Neha Tripathi (75-75) came in eighth. Anisha Agarwalla (77-75) and Lavanya Jadon (75-77), who made her professional debut, were tied for ninth.
