Patna, April 28 (NationPress) Bihar's Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary sharply criticized Lalu Prasad, the Chief of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), along with Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav concerning the liquor prohibition law, while also indirectly questioning Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

Choudhary's rebuttal came in response to media inquiries about Tejashwi Yadav's claims that the Nitish Kumar-led government has been oppressive towards Dalits and marginalized groups, particularly focusing on the Pasi community under the pretext of the liquor prohibition law.

"When the liquor prohibition law was enforced, which government was in power in Bihar? These individuals first imprisoned people and now feign concern for their release. The law was created by his family, resulting in the incarceration of the Pasi community, and now they are making empty promises to free them," stated the Deputy CM.

He questioned the absence of any objections from the RJD or Tejashwi Yadav during the enactment of the liquor prohibition law in April 2016.

At that time, the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) government was in control of Bihar, with Nitish Kumar at the helm and Tejashwi Yadav serving as Deputy Chief Minister.

"If Tejashwi Yadav had any issues at that moment, he should have voiced them when the law was passed. Neither he nor his party proposed the exclusion of toddy from the liquor prohibition law then," Choudhary remarked.

Tejashwi Yadav, addressing a rally for the Pasi community on Sunday, assured that if the Mahagathbandhan regains power in the upcoming 2025 Assembly elections, he would ensure the release of all jailed members of the Pasi community under toddy-related charges, remove toddy from the liquor ban, and establish a toddy industry in Bihar.

Choudhary's comments have heightened political tensions, as his statements also cast a shadow on Nitish Kumar.

He hinted that no legislation could have been enacted without CM Nitish Kumar's approval during the Grand Alliance's governance.

"When the liquor prohibition law was enacted, both the JD-U and RJD were part of the government. The BJP had no involvement in that process," Choudhary emphasized, distancing his party from past decisions.

Samrat Choudhary's statements have intensified the ongoing political discourse surrounding liquor prohibition and the alleged discrimination against marginalized groups in Bihar.
